Essential Guide to Shipping Container Delivery Planning

Buying a shipping container is exciting, but delivery day requires planning. Unlike a small Amazon package, a steel container weighing several thousand pounds needs space, preparation, and coordination. Here’s everything you should know before your container arrives.

Standard Delivery Timeline: 10‑15 Days
Once you place your order, we prepare your container – inspecting doors, seals, and floor. Then we coordinate with our logistics partners to schedule delivery. Most customers receive their container within 10 to 15 business days from order confirmation.

Multi‑Unit Orders (5 or more): 21 Days
Large orders require additional coordination: multiple trucks, specific sequencing, and sometimes special permits. We also do a second quality check on every unit to ensure consistency. That’s why we ask for 21 days for orders of 5 or more containers.

What You Need to Prepare Before Delivery

  1. Level ground – A slight slope (up to 2‑3%) is fine, but the container should not rock. Gravel pads, compacted soil, or concrete blocks work well.
  2. Clear access – The delivery truck needs a straight path. For a 20ft container, about 60ft of straight line is ideal; for a 40ft, at least 100ft.
  3. Overhead clearance – Watch for low tree branches, power lines, or eaves. The truck with container on board is about 13–14 feet tall.
  4. No soft ground – Mud or freshly tilled soil can cause the truck to get stuck. Wait for dry conditions or lay down plywood/mats.
  5. Contact phone – Our driver will call 30‑60 minutes before arrival. Make sure someone is on site.

What Happens on Delivery Day

  • The driver will position the container as close as possible to your desired spot using a roll‑off truck or moffett forklift (depending on access).
  • We do not place containers on roofs, over retaining walls, or in extremely tight corners. That requires a crane (additional cost).
  • Once the container is on the ground, inspect it quickly: doors open and close? No major damage from transit? Sign the delivery receipt.

After Delivery
If you notice any issue (e.g., a door seal torn during transport), contact us within 7 days with photos. We’ll resolve it under warranty – 12 months structural on new containers, 90 days wind/watertight on used units.

Pro Tip: If you’re ordering multiple containers, consider having us deliver them already linked (side‑by‑side or end‑to‑end). We offer joining kits and can pre‑assemble them at our yard for an easier setup.

Have questions about access or delivery timing? Call or email us before ordering – we’re happy to advise.
